The LITTLE things I love BIG time!

I was driving home from work last night and was thinking of all the small things in life that I love a lot! As I began this thought process a bunch of things flooded my brain. I will write the first thing that popped up and then make a list.

The first thing that came up was in the summer having the A/C really low and wearing short and a sweatshirt cuddled up on the couch! Gosh, I just love that being cold enough to wear a huge comfy sweatshirt and then shorts. Usually I will wear this while eating a bowl of ice cream and watching reality tv!

OK, now the very important list! Dun Dun Dun!

1.) Coloring in a coloring book. The smell of crayons takes me back to happy times.

2.) Being an adult. I enjoyed being a kid, but being an adult rocks!

3.) Putting on a new pair of heels for their first "night out".

4.) Any office supply with a cute design. Working with a cute stapler is way more fun!

5.) Baking cookies for other people, I really love to bake but it is nicer to do it for others.

6.) Being cuddled up with my son watching a movie.

7.) A nice big burger, with tomato and ketchup.

8.) Driving downtown with my husband at night with the sunroof open. We usually do this in the middle of the night (when we don't have Addison). There have been times in our lives where one of could not sleep and we just look at (or wake up) each other and say "wanna take a drive?" we both know what it means. Sometimes we talk about what is going on, other times we just ride. It means a lot to both of us.

9.) The Farmers Market

10.) Finishing a list (work or fun)

It is nice to think about the small things and smile!

The Magic 8 Ball

Everyone has heard of the Magic 8 Ball, right? If you have not, your hold it in your hand ask it a question (hypothetical or not) and give it a little shake and flip it over and BAMMMM there is the answer. Pretty easy and cool, and solves all of life's big or small problems.

We at the 1373 we just happen to have a Magic 8 Ball and it solves many of our problems. We took a family trip to DC before the end of summer to take Addison to see all of the major historical events, well mainly "Tornado Alley". My son love the series Storm Chasers and can tell you each person's name and what role they are in the series. We visited many of the museums, toured The White House, went to an amazing dinner and of course visited gift shops.

We stopped in the gift shop of the Smithsonian and I saw an 8 Ball. I looked at Steven and said we have to get this, looking at me like he always does "Sara, seriously what for, we can get it at Target and it will be cheaper." I explain we can use this 8 Ball to decide our arguments/disagreements (everyone has them, if you say you do not...I am calling you a liar). He looks at me even more confused, like I have really lost my mind. I tend to be argumentative and relentless until I get my way. Before he can interject(we were having a rough weekend), "Steven, I promise whatever the 8 Ball says we will go by." He looks at me in disbelief. I quickly follow the statement up by "ok, well sometimes best out of three". He agrees we purchase the Magic 8 Ball and it currently lives in our home. I cannot remember the last time we have used it, I guess that is good.

But, I feel like sometimes disagreements can simply be solved by "flip of a ball". There are times where we (everyone) is strong headed about something and really there will be no resolution that will make each person happy, so flip the ball and suck it up and deal with it. I love our "8 Ball" approach, nothing should be that serious unless of course it is dealing with diamonds, shoes, or sports. Seriously though, we laugh more than we disagree and we are lucky enough to have good communication and talk things out.

I count our blessings. We are blessed to have each other. We are still early in this game of marriage and I am sure this Magic 8 Ball is be flipped a lot over the years. But, I am happy to say I "flipped the 8 ball" many times about marriage and it always told me yes, even if I did not trust myself I know we did the right thing. As much grief as I give him on the blog and real life, I am sooo blessed to have him in our (mine and Addison) life.

Hopefully he never flipped the 8 Ball on us. :-)

Wait, you want to put what?!?! Where?!?!

This series of events happened in the couple month's before our actual marriage ceremony.

At the beginning of August Steven began to move some of his things to our townhouse. It is a very cute home, bright windows, kitchen, fabulous huge back deck and large master suite. The kitchen could use some upgrades but it is fine and with our fabulous wedding gifts it looks 100 times better! (Thanks, friends!) I do not claim to be Martha Stewart or any sort of decorator but I think I do pretty well. Ok, to get to the point- Steven's things were coming over in shifts.

Box 1: A bunch of clothes-I went through those and got rid of a bunch of them and he is currently making upgrades to his wardrobe. There were quite a few strange things in this batch, shirts I am pretty sure date to concerts before I was born. We made sure to get rid of all those hideous crew cut sweaters, tube socks, and anything else I did not like (almost all of it)! He kept some cherished band t-shirts and shirts I wanted to sleep or work out in. Ohh and we got rid of some boxers, seriously honey we are not in high school anymore time to move up to the big boy underwear!

Box 2: Sentimental Items is what I will call them. This box contained letters from his friends, brother, sister-in-law and pictures of his family when he was younger. I got a side of Steven I sometimes forget is there, he is very sentimental, likes to hold on to things that mean a lot to him. There were some pictures of previous girlfriends, he offered to get rid of them and I suggested otherwise. It is not a bad thing to keep. He has pictures of his niece and nephews, mom and dad, and he and his brother when they were toddlers and babies. My husband has the sweetest heart and I am very proud to say does the right thing. He has been taken advantage of by family (even when he was at his lowest) and friends and he is quickly able to forget about it and move on even when I am not ready for him to!

Box 3. You will never guess what "box 3" contained? TOYS?!?!?! What? Seriously? I was so confused by this box, toys really?!?! These toys included "Heeman" (SP?), Ninja Turtles, Baseball action figures, Star War action figures, the list goes on. So I am thinking cool my son has some new toys to play with, not so much. These toys are Steven's and they are going to be worth money one day. Ummmm....ok. Ok.....another deep breath...OK?! What really all the other toys we have upstairs in the play room we don't need more toys in the house. But Sara, these toys are from a really long time ago. I see. No, I still do not see but they are still in a box in storage so at least I don't have to look at them.

Box 4. Almost to the last box, this box is Duke Stuff. I knew when I began to date Steven I was going to be a Duke fan. It is not deep in my blood and I do not get angry at the TV and yell when things happen, but I do not mind putting on a Duke t-shirt for my honey on Duke days and occasionally yelled at Zoubek when he sucked. Also, I will walk around the campus whenever we can. I will even bake Duke cakes for him. But by no means do I need or want Duke "things" around my house, for example: Right now, if anyone walks into my house you will find a very cutely decorated living room it is modern and chic. We have a decent size TV (not big enough for my husband) surround sound system and ooooooovvveeer there, yea you see, over there in the corner stands, guess who? Coach K, YES, I have a Coach K bobble head next to our TV. He doesn't match anything in the room, he just every now and then nods yes when the cat bumps the console. Occasionally I will have Coach K settle a dispute between the two of us (over the TV of course) when I ask him if I can watch the real world, pick him up and he nods yes! Great! I tell Steven "yes, I will, see even Coach K said so! Boooyaaawww! Now Hand me the remote, please?!" :-)

Box 5. Last box, friends, watch your heads on this one....my husband has swords!!! Before you go judging him, (not that I didn't) he does not sit around at home and play world of warcraft on the computer or pretend to be someone else. He just is strange sometimes. I have tried time and time again to try to explain to him how weird people will think he is if we have them. He still thinks he is cool, he response is and I quote "Sara, this is an exact replica of the one from XX movie" I am still not impressed. I said well what do you want to do with them, "I don't know, hang them in the living room" my mouth hit the floor! "Steven, you are not putting those things where anyone can see them!" "Why do we even have to keep them, we can sell them and buy some thing we can actually use. Steven, really if you want to keep those you better be a ninja at night while I am sleeping, saving the world from whatever ninjas get" He just looks at me and laughs, ohh good he wasn't serious about hanging them. WRONG! He really wants to hang them. I then proceed to e-mail him an article about proper etiquette of swords. In a nut shell, the article states how important it is to not hang swords in living rooms or above any furniture because it can be intimidating to any guests. Ummmm...hellooo! Yes, very scary! Why not hang them in the kitchen, "Hey honey, toss me the samurai, I need to slice this carrot." To any guests that come over, the swords are in the basement closet away from any one's sight (but mine).

I win this battle. I continue to encourage him to let me do the decorating hope he understands when Coach K will be living in a "man cave" one day he would much rather be there anyway. :-)

Everlong, or at least until Christmas, Right?!?!

I have been married for almost two months now. I am learning a lot. I have created a list of things I have learned in less than 60 days about being married that I could not learn in the 3 years we were dating, I am a quick learner right?

1.) Being Married means you can no longer say "Go home!" Ummm, I think the first time I tried to tell Steven this we both gave each other this look like 'Nice try lady, I am home.' This whole married thing put quite a dent in my free time, by free time I mean being able to watch trashy reality TV (don't judge me) such as Real House Wives, Real World and Teen Mom. I cannot help myself. Also, I actually have to clean up after myself on someone else's time frame. It used to be when Steven was at his house I had plenty of time empty the dishwasher or fold laundry without being judged. Now, Steven knows I am not at home in an apron and heels, always looking like June Clever running a house perfectly. Instead he says "Sara, I seriously need some clean clothes (I insist on doing the laundry, I don't like the way he does it.) and what is Addison going wear to school tomorrow?"

2.) Marriage is surprisingly comfortable. Anyone who has known me since late fall of 2002 understands me when I say this. I am one of those people who just when you think things are going good, I will go and rock the boat. By rocking the boat this can mean a series of things, I will stop answering your calls, break up with you, find a problem where there is not one, tell you that you are getting on my nerves, the list goes on and on but sometimes they are legit and other times I have just gotten tired of you and your antics (this is not limited to just males). Oh, another thing I have done to try and move on from someone is the whole "How to lose a guy in 10 days" antics. But in the end, I guess Steven is just the one who would look at me and think "wow, this is chick is crazy-but I love her" (while staring in amazement or fear) and even up until a couple weeks before our wedding I did this stuff to him. I was just checking, honey. :-)

3.) When you are married, you will always disagree about the TV. This drives me crazy. Ok, Steven cannot stand reality TV, I love reality shows they are the milk to my cookies.

Our conversations are usually like this:

Steven: "Why did you record Teen Mom?"
Sara: "Because I like it, why?"
Steven: "It is stupid, you know you are not a teen anymore, right?"
Sara: "What?! But I was a teen mom.
Steven: "Sara, you were 20."
Sara: "So what, I like the show."
Steven: "You are taking up room on the DVR, it takes you like 2 weeks to watch the 20/20 you recorded. If you want to record the shows just watch them within a couple days."
Sara: (beginning to go into a spoiled temper tantrum) "UGH! Why do we always watch what you want to, we never get to watch what I want.."

This conversation happens on a regular basis at the 1373. We also are in constant battle of the TV volume, I am very comfortable listening to the tv at a solid 11, 12 is pushing it and OUCH 13 is too loud. Steven, is very happy at an 18. We have volume wars, they are much like the rumored AC/Heat wars most couple experience. When he walks out of the room is nonchalantly turn the volume down, sometimes he notices other times he doesn't. I secretly keep a score board tally of the times he doesn't notice. I am currently winning this battle because he now listens to the TV 4 lower than when he first moved in, he was at a deafening 22!

4.)Marriage is volunteering your self to be punished. I take pleasure in torturing my HUSBAND! It took me a really long time to call him my boyfriend, fiance' was even harder but having a husband?!?!? That is crazy. He worked very hard for this title and I must keep him earning it. I do things on a pretty much daily basis to let him know how much he is loved and that being my husband is not going to be easy,as if dating me was. I constantly forget to do something only to call him when he is in the middle of watching a Patriots game to walk down the stairs to bring me something. Most of you would say, you should do it yourself-ehhh that would be too easy. It is more fun to have him say, "Sara, seriously?!?! (while he gets up to do it)" I smile as he is walking back upstairs and simply tell him "I love you, honey!" This is one of my favorite methods of torture. I on a regular basis send him e-mails of things I like and want. Any given day/time he could receive and e-mail from Tiffany, David Yurman or most recently Michael Kors. The emails are usually show up in his in box as A friend has shared and item with you. It will have a link to the product and a message from (my hard earned title) "Your Wife loooves this purse and I know how excited you would be to get it for her. Love you, Sara"

So, Steven always has a running list of ideas for gifts if he ever needs it! Only true love would terrorize someone this way. The bonus you ask? He is on their mailing list FOREVER! Ha!

In all seriousness, I am adjusting well to being married! It is a fun little adventure we are beginning together. If you know me, which anyone reading this most likely does, you know this is a big deal for me. I am having fun and enjoying this little journey of Everlong. <3
